Ends Dec. 6th, 2024: Socks for Seniors
SOCU Partners with Christian Family Radio for Annual Sock Drive
For the 2nd year in a row, we have partnered with Christian Family Radio (CFR) station for their annual “Socks for Seniors” donation drive. The collection drive will run from Nov. 1st through Dec. 6th and delivery will follow Dec. 9th - 13th to 52 Senior Care facilities in 12 counties in the South-Central Kentucky region. With a record-breaking collection of 7,403 socks last year, we are hoping our community helps to have another record-breaking year of donations!
What Kind of Socks?
Fun, fuzzy, and funky socks are always a favorite type of sock to share. Other descriptions for donation types needed are colorful long socks, socks with grips on the bottoms, orthopedic socks, or holiday socks. The brighter, the better!
Why Are We Collecting Socks?
With the holiday season and the weather turning colder, this sock drive is an opportunity to spread joy by visiting with seniors in care facilities to warm their feet and hearts. Each year, thousands of lonely and financially challenged seniors struggle with the holiday blues. They dread facing the holiday season alone – some being without family or friends, some with the isolation of being a widow or widower. Being away from children and grandchildren produces extreme loneliness. If you are interested in supporting this sock drive, there are two ways to help: donate or volunteer to deliver.
How to Donate
Service One has donation collection boxes at area branches, and more drop off locations can be found on CFR’s website here. If you know of a location who would like to participate, you can reach out on that website to make those arrangements.
How to Volunteer to Deliver
If you are interested in volunteering to help deliver socks and joy to Senior Care Facilities, CFR is managing those delivery plans - reach out them on their website, through their email at mail@christianfamilyradio.com, or call them at 1-800-978-5755.
