You’re Not Alone!
A single dad, who was displaced by a tornado, came to talk to us about owning a home. He had subpar credit and various credit issues. Over the course of many months, we helped him work on his finances and budgeting, built a plan to improve his finances and credit. While we were not able to meet his immediate request, all the work he did on his budget and finances and our collaboration and contract with the Housing Authority, he has become a “homeowner”. Interestingly, the single Dad ‘s father was a previous recipient of the Housing Authority’s goodwill and collaboration. His dad owns a Barber Shop in a low-income historic district and is actively helping to revitalize downtown.
A member that was financially distressed over his high-rate loans, and was having trouble paying his bills, including his Mortgage. He did not want to lose his home. We counseled with him, and looked for ways to help him understand and reduce all his debt, and break down his income, helping him make a budget. The Relationship Manager proposed to consolidate all debt, except his mortgage into one manageable payment. The consolidation of his debt with a much lower interest rate and term resulted in a significant monthly saving of $886 for the member, greatly easing his financial burden.
